Whale Watching San Juan Island Near Seattle

Wednesday, May 30th

We had a spectacular day on the water today. There were just 10 passengers on the boat and J-Pod was spotted not too far away; on the west side of San Juan Island. The water was calm and we could see all the way to the Olympic Mountains. We had some very nice looks at Ruffles, Granny, Blackberry, Mike, Slick and her new calf J-42. I even saw J-41 (the 2 year old calf) breaching 4 times a distance away. On the way back we had the opportunity to see several bald eagles, an eagles nest, harbor seals and a dall's porpoise. Hopefully the weather will be just as nice tomorrow.

Today we went out for our 1:00 trip out of Friday Harbor on the Sea Lion with 17 guests. It was calm as well as beautiful outside. We went up north near Saturna Island which is a part of the Canadian Gulf Islands. While we were up there we saw J-Pod. They were fairly spread out and traveling from East Point (Saturna Island) towards Turn point (Stuart Island). We had some very nice looks and there were not very many boats out today. From there, we went through Johns Pass and had some opportunities to look at Speiden Island, Bald Eages, Harbor Seals, and a Great Blue Heron. The guests were very nice and interested in all the San Juan Islands had to offer.

The Gang Is All Here

Travis put in his first day yesterday hauling kayaks around, putting them away at both Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor. Both he and Kate are in the office picking up their emails. The Sea Lion is due in momentarily. Capt. Pouillion and Margo are crewing her today. Nice day. Just a bit of wind. I can see the boat coming in off in the distance. I'll let Margo and the Captain tell you what they saw today.
