more transient whales

More Transient whales yesterday around Victoria.
Have a beautiful and mild day in Friday Harbor today with just a light breeze. Fluffy clouds with a baby blue sky.
Had waterfowl on the pond this week end:
Canada Geese (of course) widgeon, (AKA squeeky ducks) snow goose, mallard duck my own Toluse Goose and African Gray Goose and throw in a Bald Eagle at the edge of the pond.

Transient Orcas Seen Wednesday

There were some transient orcas seen near Sooke, Canad Tuesday.
Yesterday, transients were seen off Lopez Island in the San Juans

It is blustery today in Friday Harbor and overcast.

Transients!!! (whales that is)

Today we left Friday Harbor at about 1 pm and headed out south past Cattle Point in the Strait of Juan De Fuca.
We found some Transient orcas! These orca usually hang near Canada and usually in a small bunch 5 to 6 whales.
I think we counted about 12 to 16 individuals traveling all together and from what I have read and heard this is rare.

The transient orcas were amazing. I was really impressed with them. Our guests were very excited about their encounter. On the way back our Captain made a stop at Whale Rocks and we saw a bald eagle and some harbor seals. The weather was also great today and visibility was spectacular. It was another great whale watching and wildlife trip with San Juan Safaris.

Transient Orcas are around near Canada

The Transient (meat eating) Orca Whales were seen again yesterday off Canada.
Gray whales continue to be sighted off Cameno Island.

Transient Orcas are around

Some of the "T's" transient orca whales are around out towards Victoria.
It is absolutely gorgeous today, just as it was Saturday and Sunday.

Orca Whale Found Dead

T 44, a 31 year old transient male orca was found dead near Port Hardy, N Vancouver Island, Canada. He was last seen and photographed alive March 8, 2009.
So rarely are orca bodies found once they have died, that this is an exceptional opportunity to do a necropsy and find out what caused the death of this whale.
