Transient Orca Whales Near San Juan Island Oct 27
It was an overcast morning, with partly sunny skies by mid afternoon. 28 adventurers joined us for our final scheduled departure of the 2007 season. No whales spotted upon departure at 1:00 pm, but we were heading out on a search. Captains Nancy and Peter Hardy, as well as Rebecca Clarke, naturalist, were on board as crew. We went north of San Juan in search of whales and wildlife. Stellar Sea Lions at Green Point on Speiden. Eagles, Sheep, Deer on Speiden. Lots of sea birds near the Cactus Islands, and porpoise near Turn Point. Seas were light, and the day was enjoyed by all. Four TRANSIENT orca whales were seen later in the trip off Turn Point, Stuart Island. Did not see the resident orcas today. They may have headed out to open ocean for awhile. Last spotted on Thursday 25th on the west side of San Juan.
